Integrative taxonomy of Flatbill Flycatchers (Tyrannidae) reveals a new species from the Amazonian lowlands

چکیده

Integrative taxonomic studies continue to reveal that many current polytypic species of birds are in fact constituted by two or more and therefore have been central uncovering ‘hidden’ ‘cryptic’ biodiversity. The Olivaceous Flatbill (Aves: Tyrannidae: Rhynchocyclus olivaceus) currently has nine recognized subspecies distributed throughout the Neotropics, but so far, no complete phylogenetic hypothesis exists test validity evolutionary relationships among them. To remedy this, we conducted a multi-character integrative revision genus Rhynchocyclus, focusing on R. olivaceus. combination taxonomically dense sampled multilocus phylogeny (including three mitochondrial nuclear genes) with phenotypic analyses including morphological vocal characters pointed several inconsistencies within strongly support olivaceus is paraphyletic, an exclusively cis-Andean clade (where topotypic found) clustering as sister fulvipectus, exclusion grouping trans-Andean western Amazonian populations placed olivaceus—one which unnamed fully diagnosable based genetic characters. Consistent results, our identified at least four morphologically cryptic lineages can be mutually diagnosed from each other different loudsongs call parameters. Therefore, provide evidence for splitting these groups into separate species, sympatric not syntopic Amazonia, described herein—Rhynchocyclus cryptus, sp. nov. urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:2DC17190-2BDD-49EC-88E6-4CF2FC2562A3.

Integrative taxonomy reveals a new species of Callisto (Lepidoptera, Gracillariidae) in the Alps

Europe has one of the best-known Lepidopteran faunas in the world, yet many species are still being discovered, especially in groups of small moths. Here we describe a new gracillariid species from the south-eastern Alps, Callistobasistrigella Huemer, Deutsch & Triberti, sp. n. It shows differences from its sister species Callistocoffeella in morphology, the barcode region of the cytochrome c o...

Phylloscartes Lanyoni, a New Species of Bristle-tyrant (tyrannidae) from the Lower Cauca Valley of Colombia

From 194 1 to 1952, the National Museum of Natural History (USNM) obtained 23,258 skins, 478 skeletons and alcohol-preserved specimens, and 44 nests and eggs of Colombian birds from Melbourne A. Carriker, Jr. (Appendix 1). Although little publicized, this collection, which is still under systematic study, has proved to be one of the most significant from that country. Several new species were d...

Integrative Taxonomy of Southeast Asian Snail-Eating Turtles (Geoemydidae: Malayemys) Reveals a New Species and Mitochondrial Introgression

Based on an integrative taxonomic approach, we examine the differentiation of Southeast Asian snail-eating turtles using information from 1863 bp of mitochondrial DNA, 12 microsatellite loci, morphology and a correlative species distribution model. Our analyses reveal three genetically distinct groups with limited mitochondrial introgression in one group. All three groups exhibit distinct nucle...

Integrative taxonomy of Metrichia Ross (Trichoptera: Hydroptilidae: Ochrotrichiinae) microcaddisflies from Brazil: descriptions of twenty new species

Metrichia is assigned to the Ochrotrichiinae, a group of almost exclusively Neotropical microcaddisflies. Metrichia comprises over 100 described species and, despite its diversity, only one species has been described from Brazil so far. In this paper, we provide descriptions for 20 new species from 8 Brazilian states: M. acuminata sp. nov., M. azul sp. nov., M. bonita sp. nov., M. bracui sp. no...
